Are We Getting Our Money's Worth?

From HERE.

  1. The wealthiest 1% of Americans are getting THEIR money's worth. And that's what counts.

  2. The mere fact that in this comparatively affluent country with so much money to squander on wars, occupations, interminable foreign deployments, nation building and playing cop for the world, some 42,000 Americans a year die for lack of health care says it all.

  3. One might suspect a geometrical
curve-fit for that graph would show how large a factor profit is
    in the cost of service...

  4. I hear that in the $50,000 or less income bracket, leeches are making a comeback.

  5. As a health care consumer, it looks like we are getting screwed. As a health care provider, I am laughing all the way to the bank!

Note: In the interest of full disclosure, I am a consumer, not a provider.

  6. Not to throw a curveball or anything, Jerry, but we're also #1 in obesity and murders (an argument for better gun control laws, to be sure). Those things would have to play into it somewhat, I would think. AND, we also have a crummy life expectancy for 65 year-olds. A person, if they were at all cynical (and you know that I can be), could see that as an indictment of Medicare.

  7. How so? Are you implying that old people were better off before Medicare?

  8. No, I'm just comparing (as you did overall) U.S. life expectancy at age 65 to other countries.

  9. I read that going for medical treatment for the average American is the 3rd leading cause of death; after cancer and heart disease??? They say you get more sick going to a hospital?? Any truth in that?? And why is that so??? It seems insane. Is it true for the 1% rich population or better care in hospitals and such?

  10. One-My, don't believe everything you read. If that were true it would be pushing the Casey Anthony marathon off TV and the debt ceiling drama off newspaper pages.
