End of topic? But it's a great topic. Social Security recipients don't have billions of dollars with which to purchase politicians, so they make an excellent scapegoat.

ReplyDeleteIf you watch C-SPAN long enough I'm sure you'll see, as I have, Sens. John Kyl, Rand Paul and others say "entitlements" in a sneering/jeering way that makes them seem like something smelly and slimy wiped up from way back underneath the kitchen sink in an old house. To them and others like them, "reform" means weaken, make undependable, shatter people's trust, then privatize — a.k.a. destroy.
Amazingly, these political sociopaths see themselves as loyal disciple of St. Ronald. What irony.
I paid for it and am still paying for my Medicare. You're damn right that I am entitled to it!

If he considered it to be not part of the debt/budget/deficit problem, he'd never mention that, would he?

ReplyDeleteI do not agree with Obama including SS in any budget or debt discussions. SS payments do not affect the budget, the debt, or the deficit. They cannot by law. It is entirely funded by employee/employer contributions.

Just a few of many. The last one, from NPR and the Associated Press, contains this damning discussion:
"President Barack Obama's blanket statement Monday that "Social Security checks and veterans benefits will be delayed" if Congress doesn't raise the debt limit..."
Yes, just some of countless places quoting Obama's direct statement, his own words, that Social Security is very much a part of the debt/budget/deficit discussion, and is so fragile/volatile that it is on the top of the stack as the first to go if there's a crunch.
So what is going on here? Are your budget priorities very different from Obama's in this case? Perhaps more like the Republicans, in this case, who bury SS way down in this "stack" of things being the first to go in some sort of crunch like this?

ReplyDeleteIn his statements, Obama names just two things to cut right away. Social security is the "first thing" listed. Read his statements. It is clear that he considers this as part of the budget, and the most expendible part. The first to go.

ReplyDeleteNo, its not that important. If he puts it first in a list, it may or may not mean he thinks it is the most important item. It doesn't really matter. I think he is wrong to include SS in any budget discussions or cuts. But then I don't expect to agree with everything he says or does anyway. I am sure that I agree with more things that he will do, than I would have agreed with things Romney would have done if he had been elected...and that is the choice we had.

Video evidence does not stop Republicans from rewriting history. Reagan never said what he said in that video. He also never said anything about the wealthy paying their fair share.

No, dmarks does not get it. Obama has never "threatened". He is warning what will happen due to Republican obstruction. And the Republicans want to cut SS MORE, or at least as much as Obama, so this talk of "throwing under the bus" in regards to Obama ONLY is pure dmarks BS.
Regarding cutting SS: Obama is wrong. The Republicans are wrong. Liberal Democrats are right. Obama isn't a liberal Democrat (another fact dmarks does not get).

Zero. Obama has never suggested cutting off funds. He warns when Republican obstruction may lead to checks being DELAYED.

ReplyDeleteWD lied. Obama did indeed promise to cut SS payments immediately if the budget impasse came to happen. It was his promise, not that of the Republicans. It was his own choice to promise this. And yes he is a leftist, a liberal Democratic President. As measured from the political center.

But I cut him off from my blog and sent all his comments to the spam filter due to gratuitous profanity and his massive cutting and pasting of spams (not unlike the several comments above) to create dozens of spam comments. Something I do to any spammer, left... right... or nonideological.

ReplyDeletedmarks lied (and continues to lie). I submitted ZERO comments to his blog that contained profanity (absolutely none). I commented on his blog (a comment that was critical of his post, but ON TOPIC) and he called my comment "spam" and deleted it.
ReplyDeleteI had previously commented on his blog and he allowed those comments to stand, so I was somewhat surprised when he deleted what I wrote and lied about my comment being "spam". After he lied about me "spamming" him, I did submit a couple of comments that contained links to male enhancement websites. Why? Because he clearly had NO IDEA what real spam looked like. I decided to be helpful and provide him with some examples (and I was POed about him deleting my comments and LYING about what I said).
I say "somewhat surprised" because, after thinking about it, I realized he deleted my comments because he was following the lead of Will Hart, who banned me from his blog (for disagreeing with him to much). dmarks is lying about me swearing in my comments I submitted to his blog because THAT IS WHAT DMARKS DOES. See my post on the subject here. This is a post where I document dmarks' lies. dmarks will continue slandering me on other blogs, but I have documented exactly what happened on my blog (read my post to get my side before believing dmarks' lies).
dmarks will not be able to link to any statement by President Obama "threatens" to cut SS because no such statement exists. This is just another example of dmarks lying.
